How to Lift Your Truck Step by Step

Once you have your Chevy lift kit for the truck of your choice and the proper tools, it’s time to lift your truck! How do you lift your truck? Whether you lift the truck yourself or have it handled by professionals, here’s a look at how the process works:

  1. Locate your battery, and remove the negative battery cable.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on the tires.
  3. Raise the truck with your jack and jack stands.
  4. Remove the wheel and tires.
  5. Take out the old U-bolts.
  6. Remove any additional current shocks and springs.
  7. Attach the new bolts and any parts that come with the lift kit.
  8. Attach the new shocks and suspension.
  9. Use the torque wrench to tighten all bolts and other pieces to their specified levels.
  10. Put the tires back on, or put on new tires if you’ve purchased any.
  11. Slowly lower your truck back down to the ground. Make sure to keep it as level as possible when lowering it.

If you don’t feel confident in installing your lift kit, schedule service with our team at Morries Forest Lake Chevrolet. Even if you did install the lift kit yourself, we’re more than happy to give you an expert opinion and double-check anything for you!

How Long Does Lifting a Truck Take?

How long it takes to lift your Chevy Silverado 1500 will depend on whether you decide to have it professionally lifted or whether you decide to lift it yourself. If you choose to get it done yourself, you should expect the job to take about 25-30 hours, so you might be able to do it in a weekend. If you take it to a service center or certified technicians, you can expect the job to take about half the time, which is still about 10-15 hours.

If you choose to have your truck lifted at Morries Forest Lake Chevrolet, you’ll be able to get an estimate of how long it’ll take, and you can take advantage of our service specials!

Lifting a Truck Yourself vs. Having Technicians Lift Your Truck

Lifting a truck is a complex job that takes even the most skilled technicians hours to complete. While you can lift it yourself, it might take you longer to complete. Plus, getting the necessary parts and lift kit might end up costing about the same as taking into a service center if not more. So, keep this in mind when deciding whether you should lift your truck by yourself or schedule service with us near Minneapolis.
